Sofia Margaret Irigoyen

Born and raised in Miami Florida, Sofia was surrounded by colors and sounds that were very exotic to most. From a young age Sofia pursed her love of art through magnet programs since the 4th grade. She decided to study Fine Art at Flagler College for undergrad to combine her love for both art, community and surfing. The culture that resides in the “Oldest Town in America” inspires her to create work that expands her love of history and stretches her portraits narratives, “there is always something to observe or learn about even in such a small town” she notes. She graduated in May of 2023 and is continuing to pursue her art career in St.Augustine but the sky’s the limit for where her future may take her.

When it comes to personal work, Sofias self portraits and their meaning span over a wide variety of symbolism and surrealism. With a concentrated color pallet of rich yellows, blues and reds, her work often takes a whimsical and renaissance like approach to mark making and composition. Topics ranging from sexuality, the Christian church and childhood lay a shadow over her portraits, revealing much like life, that the closer you look, the darker things may become to the viewer.

Wedding paintings and commissioned pieces are just one of Sofias arsenals of artistic talent and business pursuits. As a hopeless romantic she often dreamt of love and marriage, so the fact she is able to combine art and two peoples love for one another is a blessing and dream come true.

If she’s not catching waves or with friends and family, she is most definitely painting or creating. If you would like to reach out to Sofia regarding questions or any further information be sure to go to her contact page or follow her on instagram.
